About Verity
Verity is a check-in verification platform that gives hotels the evidence they need when a chargeback shows up. Guests confirm their booking by text, we record where and how they did it, and it all becomes a report you can submit. It's built by Shadow Solutions, a Chicago-based company focused on fraud tools for hotel operators.
Hotel operators face a costly and growing problem: fraudulent chargebacks. A guest checks in, stays one or more nights, pays with their credit card — then calls their bank and disputes the charge. They claim they never stayed, never authorized the transaction, or that the charge was fraudulent.
For a hotel GM, the math is brutal. Each disputed charge triggers investigation fees, potential penalty assessments, and lost revenue. When the hotel cannot produce concrete evidence that the guest was physically present and consented to the charges, the bank sides with the cardholder. The hotel absorbs the full loss.
The root issue is an evidence gap. Traditional check-in processes — a signature on a registration card, a photocopy of an ID — do not meet the evidentiary standards that card networks like Visa, Mastercard, and Amex require during arbitration. Hotels are fighting disputes with documentation designed for a different era.
